The
3D analysis of paper surface is of high importance for the quality
control in production and research. But as paper is a macroscopically
homogeneous surface the characterization is not always straightforward
under the microscope, especially if the surface properties are to
be quantified and compared.
Relevant parameters may include flatness, relative inclination of
surfaces, load bearing characteristics, porosity, roughness frictional
properties, or spatial characteristics such as the power spectrum
or the auto-correlation function to identify underlying periodicity.
UBM systems deliver excellent features for detailed analysis of surface
structures; quality and performance of papers can easily be controlled. |
